Access

We are always looking for new ways to make our work and spaces more accessible.

Kaleider subscribes to the Social Model of Disability.

You can find out more about the social model of disability in this 100 second animated video and useful blog post by Unlimited.

Access in our Building

For more detailed information visit the Access in our Building page.

For a map and location, visit the Getting to Kaleider Studios page.

Kaleider Studios is at 45 Preston Street, in the West Quarter of Exeter, UK. It is a beautiful and quirky 19C warehouse, which means that floors are sometimes uneven or sloping.

Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome.

We open our large front door for public events. When the large front door is closed, there is a step over the main door frame on your way in. If steps make the doorway inaccessible, do let us know and we’ll make sure the entrance has level access. The doorways through the main entrance have push to open buttons.

The workspaces on the ground floor are accessible without using steps. The upper two floors are accessed by stairs.

There is a toilet on the ground floor that is wheelchair accessible and has a baby change table. There are two more toilets in the basement, accessible by a short run of stairs.

What to Expect from Us

Kaleider’s staff team completed level 1 British Sign Language in 2019 with our wonderful teacher Fiona Drummond. We returned to it in 2022 because we got bit rusty! So if you sign, feel free to greet us in sign language. We look forward to seeing you!

Some specific anti-discrimination courses we have taken include:
Trans Awareness training with Gendered Intelligence

Disability Equality Training & Neurodiversity 101 with Goss Consultancy Ltd

Allyship in the Workplace & Know Your Bias training with The Other Box.

We have participated in Unlimited’s #NothingForNothing campaign. You can join us in our anti-exploitation pledge and find resources for organisations and individuals at Unlimited.

Access in our Artworks

We’re constantly evolving access information for our touring artworks and are updating formats to our online portfolio as we develop them e.g. Audio Descriptions and Easy Read documents. We welcome context specific requests regarding access and are open to collaborating on translations into multiple languages, touch tours, using rumble vests and new suggestions.

We use Rev.com for prerecorded captions, and we are in contact with a brilliant collective of BSL interpreters and Audio Describers, who we work with regularly.

If you’d like to chat with Touring Producer Jocelyn regarding our artworks and access then please do get in touch jocelyn@kaleider.com
