I am a theatre maker living and working in Exeter. I am a co Artistic Director of Theatre Rush alongside Chloe Whipple and I am interested in the power of stories and autobiography. Our latest project, ‘The Lost Tales‘, was developed with Beaford Arts and toured rurally in Devon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. I have also been directing with Quirk Theatre for the past two years, making magical christmas shows for The Exeter Phoenix and The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington. I am seriously passionate about making work for the whole family that can be transformative and joyful, whilst tackling some big issues- I have great faith in empowering our next generation. I am also a performer, working with many different companies, often in a devising context, and I am an audiobook narrator.
My current project focuses on Birth, an area of great interest to me. I will be working with artist Laura Mugridge, health professionals, researchers and new parents to explore the notion that we might be telling the wrong stories about birth, and to look at the ways that we could change our systems for the better. I am a passionate advocate for better birth experiences, and am hoping to develop a podcast, exhibition and touring theatre show (possibly with a pop up punk band of midwives) with the aim of MAKING IT ALL BETTER.
I am the co founder of TEDDY TALKS, interesting talks for interested people and their babies under 1. This began as an antidote to the endless round of baby groups, hosted by Kaleider and The Bike Shed Theatre in it’s first iteration, and has now found a more permanent home at Exeter Phoenix.
Recently I have been working alongside my partner, filmmaker Chris Jones, to develop and deliver crowdfunding campaigns (the most recent being our work with Sophia Clist for STRETCH).
