Lunchtime Talk | Felicity Liggins | Cloud in a Bottle

At this year’s Contemporary Craft Fair in Bovey Tracey, Kaleider’s very own Seth Honnor made a cloud in a bottle. So did his boys, numerous times, alongside hundreds of other young people and adults visiting the kids’ tent. Afterwards, the question was asked ‘why haven’t you done a lunchtime talk yet?’ I didn’t have a good answer to that, so here I am! We use a variety of hands-on experiments, activities and crafts to explore weather and climate and hopefully inspire the next generation to study science, technology, engineering and maths. Our outreach to young people is an increasingly important part of the Met Office’s public engagement, and I’m always looking out for new content ideas. This talk explores what we do, why we do it and how working with partners, particularly in the arts and creative sector, can help us come up with some of our most innovative activities. I’ll bring along a couple of our experiments and share some of the challenges we face communicating certain topics. Who knows, we might even come up with a new idea or two!
