David Lane

I’ve been making and developing new work since 2002, collaborating with teenagers, communities, devising companies, sites and creating good old-fashioned scripted work for theatres too. I work in the South West and London as playwright, dramaturg and tutor in a variety of roles and often with a lot of fluidity between them.

In 2015 I was Writer on Attachment at Bristol Old Vic, supported by Arts Council England and the Peggy Ramsay Foundation, and in 2017 my new site-specific play for teenagers was produced after a two-year research project between Kilter Theatre and the EU-wide Synthetic Biology Research Programme at Bristol University. I’m currently co-writing with Just Jones & in London developing a participatory piece about politics, running a community engagement project with the Boat Shed in Exeter and just finished finished a six-month Writer-in-Residence post at Bristol University’s Theatre Department.

I’ve worked with award-winning devising companies including Fine Chisel, Dirty Market, multistory, Theatre Rush and with rural touring producer Beaford Arts, and as dramaturg with The Engine House: a two-year interdisciplinary theatre project bringing together writers, historians, technologists, architects and a wide range of creative artists to make site-specific work in Bristol.

I can mostly be found eating cake and coffee whilst meeting people and asking them questions about what they do and how and why they do it.
